Who Was Timothy Keller?

Timothy Keller was a pastor, theologian, and Christian apologist, famous for being the founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York.

In his early years in ministry, Keller was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).

For almost a decade, he pastored the West Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, Virginia and served as director of church planting for the PCA.

Keller also served on the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and was a mentor to several younger church leaders, including Scott Sauls, and Steve Chong.

As a missionary, Keller co-founded several christian organizations including of Redeemer City to City, The Gospel Coalition, and the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York.

Keller also authored several books which became New York Times bestsellers.

In 2017, Keller ceased to be senior pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.

Keller passed away on May 19, 2023, at the age of 72. He had earlier been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002, and later pancreatic cancer in 2020.

Keller is survived by his wife, Kathy Kristy, and three children.
