Russell Giroux, of Alburgh, Vermont, was tragically killed Tuesday night in a fight at a middle school basketball game in Grand Isle. Authorities are seeking out those responsible and investigations into the cause of death are underway. This incident serves as another reminder of the violence our society faces, and of those we have lost too soon among us.

What happened to Russell Giroux?

Tuesday night’s basketball game between Alburgh and St. Albans quickly devolved into a brawl, according to witnesses. People were allegedly tackling, shoving, kicking, and punching at the Alburgh Community Education Center on Chandler Street. With the two teams unable to contain their emotions, it eventually took adults from both sides of the court to restore order.

Russell Giroux, a sixty-year-old victim who was fatally injured during a brawl, was transported to a nearby hospital and passed away soon after. The cause and manner of death will be determined after an autopsy is conducted by medical officials. As of yet, no arrests have been made in relation to the incident; however, the police are currently in the process of further investigating what truly happened. It is another unfortunate reminder that, as humans, we must stay vigilant in protecting each other and take care not to be swayed by emotions when tempers become heated.
