Hot fired-up Afrobeats energy from the get-go, Olamide brings it for his incredible collaboration with CKay on the single “Trumpet”. An accompanying music video, which relates effortlessly to the track, has also been dropped. This is the follow-up to Olamide’s feature on Lil Cash Pablo’s single “Kere” and CKay’s double remix single of tracks “by now” and “emiliana”.

Olamide Adedeji is a singer-songwriter, African icon, and music executive, from Nigeria. He has been in the music industry for many years, first dropping his debut single, titled “Eni Duro”, back in 2010, following it up with his debut album in 2011, titled “Rapsodi”, and has since released more than half a dozen full projects since. His latest album, 2021’s “UY Scuti” went on to amass over 220 million streams alone, across platforms. In 2012, he started his own record label, YBNL Nation, and he has gone from strength to strength, earning millions upon millions of music streams worldwide, with his track “Infinity” featuring Omah Lay being his most-streamed track on Spotify with 93.9 million streams on the platform. His YBNL Nation record label has quickly become one of the most respected record labels in Nigeria since he founded it, going on to launch the careers of Asake, Fireboy DML, and Adekunle Gold, amongst many others. Olamide is certainly a force to be reckoned with, he exudes talent and is someone who is bound to go globally viral anytime soon.

As for CKay, real name Chukwuka Ekweani, he is a hugely known Nigerian rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer, who has already had a number of international chart successes. He launched to global fame due to the sleeper hit “Love Nwantiti” hitting charts around the world, two years after its initial release in 2019, quickly going on to be certified gold and platinum in many countries and soon became the first-ever African song to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams, across all versions including remixes and the featured versions. The original sits at 680.3 million streams while the DJ Yo! & AX’EL featured remix version sits at 519.1 million streams on the platform. CKay has continued to deliver with his follow-up tracks, going on to have moderate success with “emiliana”. His prowess as an artist and his ability to put Afrobeats on the map and launch the genre successfully worldwide just shows how iconic he is and someone who will continue to make his mark in the music industry. We expect many more global hits from him in the near future.

Written by Olamide Adedeji, whilst it has been produced by P.Priime and CKay, “Trumpet” is a rhythmic Afrobeats song that has a drifty oceanic atmosphere guaranteed to be the summer chill track you need in your life this year. Olamide impresses with his lyrical prowess for his rap verses, giving us a flow like no other with awesome rhymes and honest sentiments wrapped around sexy, sultry words guaranteed to make you feel hot under the collar as he mentions how he wants to impress his love interest. With clever use of language and metaphors throughout, Olamide is completely on top form, but so is CKay with his awesome melodic pre-chorus and chorus that just exudes hot summer fun. It’s hard not to love CKay and this track after he asks us to love him repeatedly, plus those innuendos are certainly something. With an ocean breeze backing track that matches the flow of these singer-songwriters and their awesome vocals, “Trumpet” is one track we’ll be playing this summer!

The official music video, directed by Jyde Ajala with production by Dew Media Production, draws inspiration from the lyrics within the song, giving us a pure performance visual set in Hollywood, LA. We watch Olamide and CKay fill this track with passion and flavour with their personalities and their energies, whilst also being surrounded by stunning women. These women embody the women we believe Olamide and CKay are referencing in “Trumpet” as they have a fierce energy about them. The entire music video seems to be shot at a villa in Hollywood, which gives some absolutely incredible views and shots. The ending sees a trumpet and a trombone being played – we did expect to see an actual trumpet, even if that isn’t exactly what Olamide and CKay mean in the song.
