Jada Pinkett Smith discussed her mental health struggles alongside her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, her daughter Willow, as well as guest star Kid Cudi on the latest episode of Red Table Talk. Jada got candid about the breakdown she experienced at age 20.

Because of it, ‘I became extremely suicidal. I had an emotional collapse. When you just do not have control over your emotions, your thoughts, you feel utterly out of control,’ Jada revealed.

She went on to say that when she managed to start a successful career in L.A., her depression did not become any better – in fact, in only worsened!

Jada recalled that she was prescribed Prozac, an antidepressant, but it caused more harm than good.

‘It was, like, only 5 milligrams, but once it disrupted my sex drive, I said, ‘Look, that is the one thing I have in my life …’ That was the thing that got me off of Prozac. They put me on just so I could get to a place in which I could at least talk about what was happening, where I could function. I was extremely depressed, and that was something that I battled for years.’

The actress claims that the very worst part of her daily routine was waking up.

The key to dealing with depression in her case was learning to ‘let go’ of things.

Furthermore, Jada confessed that her kids were the main reason why she did not harm herself in a more severe manner.
