Mexican fighter Canelo Alvarez is in the final stages of his brilliant career and, although he's still fighting at a high level, he knows that saying at the top has a price and that implies the end of a historic career, sooner or later.

Alvarez revealed this to Hugo Sanchez, who works for ESPN. At 33 years old, Canelo acknowledged that he plans to continue putting on the boxing gloves for at least four years.

From 28-29 years old, that was the age I felt the best. I've always said that a37 is a good age to enjoy what I've accomplished with my family, of other things in my career... That's what I say, but I also said I would debut at 18 and I did it at 15.

However, he warned that he first wants t organize a fight at the largest sports facility in Mexico, the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City: "I am very interested in fighting at Azteca. I would love to have a fight there before retiring."

Canelo reflects on the best moments of his career

When prompted by Sanchez, Canelo recounted his favorite moments in the ring.

In my career it's difficult to choose one moment, but there was a before and after with the Miguel Cotto fight. The toughest moment is when you lose. I have lost twice in my life and they are difficult moments because you don't prepare yourself to lose. Just as you celebrate when you win, you have to accept when you lose.

He also noted that during the last decade, he has remained at the top of the sport, getting to be named the best pound for pound fighter in the world until he lost in May 2022 to Dmitry Bivol in surprising fashion. However, he showed a dominant level that even led to him dubbing himself "invinicible".

In the meantime, Canelo is preparing to fight Jermell Charlo on September 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the undisputed super middleweight title which is held by Alvarez. He wanted a rematch against Bivol, but he couldn't get it.

The interview was conducted at Canelo's training camp in Lake Tahoe.
