I don't recall the lady truckers, but definitely remember Greg Evigan

by Anonymousreply 1June 18, 2016 11:44 PM

I do. I also remember Greg's insanely tight pants.

by Anonymousreply 2June 18, 2016 11:44 PM

The lady truckers came on during the third season, r1.

Part of our Saturday night line up and we never missed it. God I miss 1970s TV.

by Anonymousreply 4June 19, 2016 12:08 AM

The show's primary cultural significance is that a one episode crooked local sheriff character was so popular with the audience he got his own spin-off that totally overshadowed the original series.

LOVED it.

Loved the Bear. Loved the whole freedom of their life on the road and the little adventures they had along the way.

by Anonymousreply 7June 19, 2016 12:34 AM

Show tailored to a married hetero male audience. Men saddled with responsibilities and a shrew of a wife dreaming of being free to travel the highways in a big truck (obviously a compensatory possession) leading a life surrounded by big titted women who aren't terribly bright.

by Anonymousreply 8June 19, 2016 12:48 AM

Karen: You'll never guess who just walked in!

Jack: Is it Greg Evigan, from TV's B.J. and the Bear and, after a brief hiatus, My Two Dads?

Will: You know, I never realized how gay those shows sounded. It's a wonder he didn't follow them up with a show called "Hey Faggot!"

I don't know why I never watched this. I was 10-12 years old when it aired, so definitely target audience. I just looked at the Primetime schedule, and I don't see anything that aired against it that I watched either. What the hell was I doing Saturday nights as a kid?

He showed up as an insanely hot plumber in the "Reba" show a while back. He looked very able to clean out her pipes with ease, but Reba wasn't ready for anything romantic.

At this time in my life I was 5-7 years old, it was BJ, Dukes of Hazzard, Wonder Woman, Facts of Life and Love Boat. I can't believe any adults watched these shows.

by Anonymousreply 29June 20, 2016 3:44 PM

Remember the episode where BJ was in a truck stop and getting a BJ from a hooker and the light went on and it was a man and BJ beat the man up?

We used to watch it. Until BJ started hopping into bed with so many different women. Then my mother got really pissed off and we had to watch it without her knowing.

by Anonymousreply 32June 20, 2016 6:23 PM

I used to watch it and just wanted BJ to spunk all over me. He was so fuckin' sexy.

by Anonymousreply 33June 20, 2016 6:31 PM

Greg Evigan was my first grown-up-girl crush. Before Greg, it had been Tiger Beat boys like Shaun Cassidy. Greg wasn't a boy. He was a MAN and got my grown-up-girl juices a-flowin'!

by Anonymousreply 34June 20, 2016 6:34 PM

I loved PS I LUV U. That's actually a pre-famous Sheryl Crow singing with Greg at the end credits @R15. Connie was just lip syncing.

by Anonymousreply 35June 20, 2016 6:39 PM

The show should have had one more season instead of only three seasons.

by Anonymousreply 36June 20, 2016 8:29 PM

[quote]The show should have had one more season instead of only three seasons.

Oddly enough, I think that AIDS panic did this show in. Its last season was 1981 and by then people were freaking out about causal sex.

by Anonymousreply 37June 20, 2016 8:34 PM

LOVED BJ & Bear! I especially loved the original "Snow White & The Seven Lady Truckers" two-part episode in S2 (which spawned the seven lady trucker regulars in S3). Snow White was played by Laurette Spang....on whom I'd had a little crush since Battlestar Galactica, as Cassopeia....but didn't quite understand why?

Ever since that ladies hands and face were ripped off in that chimpanzee attack, I can't look at those lil monsters with anything other than dread and fear. NO WARNING!

by Anonymousreply 43June 21, 2016 11:10 PM

Why was there never a porn parody involving a hunky muscle bear who drives around and gets blowjobs in seedy locales.

by Anonymousreply 44June 21, 2016 11:21 PM

Performing oral sex on a bear will surely end in tears. What is wrong with this country that dangerous filth like that can become so popular?

by Anonymousreply 45June 21, 2016 11:23 PM

We called it "Blow Job and the Bulge" in my day.

by Anonymousreply 46June 21, 2016 11:33 PM

B.J. & The Bear was a show that came on television for three seasons. Maybe it was a rarity to have a porn parody on it back then. The show was catered to a straight heterosexual male audience because of the seven lady truckers in the third season. Straight women liked Greg Evigan because he was cute for his time.

by Anonymousreply 47June 22, 2016 12:29 AM

As I mentioned upthread, I never really watched BJ and I can't figure out why. I was the perfect age when it first aired (8-10 yrs old) But now that I'm hearing it featured a lot of Greg Evigan sex scenes, maybe I will. Do you get a lot of shirtless Evigan in the programme?

by Anonymousreply 48June 22, 2016 6:22 AM

Does anyone think that Greg Evigan was being typecast for playing certain roles after B.J. & The Bear? I know he did My Two Dads several years after that.

by Anonymousreply 51June 27, 2016 10:45 PM

I know B.J. & The Bear is one of the shows from the late 1970's and early 1980's that does not hold up pretty well. It is pretty dated at this point with the casual sex and the innuendos. Plus the chimp riding along with his trucker friend.

by Anonymousreply 53June 29, 2016 6:49 PM

That was the last time I wanted to go down on a trucker. Since, then, I moved to UPS men and the ocassional FedEx dude.

by Anonymousreply 54June 29, 2016 7:14 PM

[quote]Straight women liked Greg Evigan because he was cute for his time.

Didn't you read all of the gay men who lusted for him? And he wasn't just 'cute'; he really was gorgeous, especially in BJ AND THE BEAR. He would still be considered highly attractive today, late '70s fashion notwithstanding.

by Anonymousreply 55August 21, 2017 3:28 PM

R48 there was a lot of this:

by Anonymousreply 56August 21, 2017 3:28 PM

R43 SAME! Now whenever I see a still of clip from BJ AND THE BEAR, for example, I can't help but cringe thinking about what if that chimp suddenly became irate and ripped off HIS beautiful face!

by Anonymousreply 57August 21, 2017 3:31 PM

Separating a chimp from its mother - not a good thing. So people watched a show about a man and primate which shouldn't have been removed from it natural habitat. Bad on several different levels.

by Anonymousreply 58August 21, 2017 3:43 PM

[quote]The first time I remember seeing Greg Evigan, it was his very improbable role as Mackenzie Phillips' love interest on One Day At A Time

he was Barbara's love interest and he rejected her for Julie. Like anyone would ever do that.

by Anonymousreply 59August 21, 2017 4:15 PM

I remember loving the concept when I was a little kid, and watching it. But, I remember thinking they didn't have enough of the monkey.

Dukes of Hazzard was the same kind of thing, but done much better.

by Anonymousreply 60August 21, 2017 4:17 PM

I know the theme song (well parts of it) without even clicking it.

"Good scenes and better dreams I'm BJ Mckay and this is my best friend Bear"

by Anonymousreply 61August 21, 2017 4:19 PM

Back in the days when they still programmed Saturday nights. Now it's all repeats of shit from earlier in the week and I don't know why.

Evigan was both hot and somehow not really a star too. Something almost "Jersey" about him. But I loved the natural hair on his chest.

by Anonymousreply 62August 21, 2017 4:24 PM

[quote]Something almost "Jersey" about him.

What does that mean? A 'guido'?

by Anonymousreply 66August 21, 2017 4:35 PM

"Guido" feels too far, he wasn't obnoxious or any stereotype -- but he definitely had something of an accent and that demeanor. Trust me, I beat off to him as a kid many a time so it didn't get in the way but he wasn't the typical California boy by a long shot.

by Anonymousreply 67August 21, 2017 4:37 PM

(Simon & Simon needs its own thread, I think.)

I was a kid then but I feel like they were for kids. My parents watched "The Greatest American Hero" and "Dallas." The former was kind of stupid when you think about it, although it has a great theme song.

I hope if they ever tried this again PETA would shut the whole shit down before it aired. There’s no way that chimp wasn’t abused and traumatized filming this every day in and out for months on end. That’s not how a wild animal should be treated.
